Prosser is a small farm town on the Yakima River with an outsized wine scene: dozens of tasting rooms, three AVAs within half an hour, and a calendar of festivals that fills the town every few weeks from spring to fall.

Start at Vintner's Village, a walkable cluster of a dozen tasting rooms five minutes from the house. Then head east to the Red Mountain AVA (about 20 minutes) for some of the state's most celebrated Cabernet, or south into the Horse Heaven Hills.

Downtown is a five-minute walk. Coffee and pastries in the morning, a brewery or a tavern in the evening, and a couple of dependable spots for a proper dinner after a day of tasting.

Outdoors & events
Beyond the tasting room.
Yakima River
Float, paddle or fish the river that runs along the edge of town. Launches and a riverside walking path are minutes away.
Great Prosser Balloon Rally
Late September. Dawn launches over the river, a night glow, and the Harvest Festival downtown. Book early.
Festival season
Scottish Fest in June, the Wine & Food Fair in August, Thanksgiving in Wine Country in November. Something most months.
